Série entièrement réalisée en France, aux studios d'Epinay-sur-Seine. La ville de Paris participa même à l'élaboration des décors en fournissant des milliers de pavés pour la reconstitution de Baker Street. Dans les seconds rôles, on retrouve de jeunes comédiens français qui devaient devenir célèbres : Delphine Seyrig, Sacha Pitoeff, Jacques Dacqmine, Jacques François ou Maurice Teynac. A noter que la production était tellement fauchée que certains scènes ont été reprises dans plusieurs épisodes (travelling depuis un cab sur un pont enjambant la Tamise). De même, Archie Duncan (Lestrade) joue aussi le rôle d'un highlander dans l'un des episodes non canoniques.
